ROPA/Shared Motherhood

About Shared Motherhood

Shared Motherhood

ROPA provides same-sex female couples the opportunity to share biological parenthood. Known as “Reception of Oocytes from Partner,” ROPA allows one partner to provide the eggs while the other carries the pregnancy. Through in vitro fertilisation (IVF), eggs from one partner are fertilised with donor sperm and transferred to the uterus of the other partner for gestation. This innovative method fosters a deep bond between both partners and their future child, offering a unique opportunity for equal biological involvement.

What your treatment will look like

    Stages of treatment

    Treatment planning

During your initial consultation, our team conducts a thorough review of both partners’ medical backgrounds and discusses potential treatment options. Additional tests, including blood work, ultrasounds, and other evaluations, may be recommended to tailor the treatment plan and optimise the likelihood of a successful pregnancy.

Once the test results are available, a follow-up appointment will be scheduled to finalise the treatment plan. Before proceeding with donor selection, it’s crucial to agree on the treatment strategy and associated costs, which will be clearly outlined by your designated Patient Coordinator.

    Finding your Donor

Our Donation Team will assist you in finding an ideal sperm donor. At Procriar, all donors undergo careful selection, screening, and thorough psychological assessments. We offer detailed donor profiles for selection and collaborate with international sperm banks to expand your options.

    Genetic Compatibility Screening

We recommend extended genetic screening to ensure compatibility between the partner providing the egg and the sperm donors. This advanced testing helps exclude many diseases, promoting better match and reproductive health.

    Ovarian Stimulation

Our doctors will design a tailored medication plan to stimulate egg development in the donor’s ovaries. Monitoring ensures the appropriate number and size of growing follicles for viable eggs.

    Endometrial Preparation

The recipient’s endometrial preparation depends on various medical factors and treatment preferences, fine-tuned during the process.

    Egg Retrieval & Fertilisation

Under ultrasound guidance, eggs are retrieved and sperm optimised for fertilisation. Advanced techniques, including Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), may be used for fertilisation.

    Embryo Development & Transfer

Embryos are carefully monitored and selected before transfer into the recipient’s uterus. A pregnancy test follows the transfer, typically after 12 days. Any surplus embryos will be cryopreserved for future attempts or shared between partners.

This treatment approach ensures a shared and inclusive process for reciprocal IVF or Shared Motherhood treatments.
